Rev 1:7 Jesus, Begotten Son

By Brother Chris

 Rev 1:7 Jesus, Begotten Son

ESV
Revelation 1:7 Behold, he (Jesus) is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

People of the Christian persuasion of faith believe that this era of planet earth is going to end with the near second coming of Jesus Christ. The question here pertains to who is Jesus Christ. Why do we await the physical return of someone who lived two thousand years ago?

KJV
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The words I would like to concentrate on here are the often-misinterpreted words, begotten son.
When did Jesus become “the only begotten”?
There are several different concepts that people believe regarding this simple statement,

1. Begotten at the time of his creation in eternity past
2. Begotten at the time of his incarnation
3. Begotten by Mary, at the time of his physical birth.
4. Begotten as Gods physical Son.

Strong’s Concordance has the number one meaning of the original Greek word, monogenh,j, translated begotten as “single of its kind, only”.

Let us take a logical look at the name, Son.

If a master artist takes on an apprentice, then the apprentice later goes out and produces his own art, he has become the reflection of the master.
In a marriage, a man and women will take on the reflection of each other for they share the same values, history, dreams and goals.
A child as they go out into the world and begins a family of their own, they become the reflection and ideals of their parents upbringing.

In this same manner, the Son is the physical reflection of the Father’s will here on earth. Not the actual physical son, for Jesus Christ Himself is God, the second spirit within the holy trinity.
The Hebrew word for god is actually El/mighty one - elohim means the fullness of his majesty. Trinitarians believe that this fullness represents the combined spirit of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. This triune spirit is what we know as the one true God Almighty who manifests into one perfect reflection and is to be worshiped in spirit for God is spirit.
Therefore, the terms Father and Son are appropriate within their broader meaning of reflection, the meaning however cannot be physically taken as literal.

ESV
Hebrews 1:2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

The son is:
- Heir- the owner of the universe
- Creator - of the universe
- Revelation of god’s glory
- Sustainer- of the universe
- King – the ruler of the universe

The question then, When was Jesus begotten?

Jesus was not begotten in the eternity past, Jesus is eternally god
Jesus was not begotten at the incarnation. He never ceased being God.
Jesus could not have been, begotten at the time of human birth. Life never stopped to exist for Christ when He came to earth. He just changed the form of His existence.

Jesus therefore must have been begotten upon resurrection day after out of selfless love; he laid down his sinless human life as the perfect sacrifice for mankind onto the Father, defeating the eternal death penalty of sin forever. He came down to become the Son of Man and rose from the grave as the Only Begotten Son of God.

Colossians 1:15-18 15 He is the image of the invisible god, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible...
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may have the preeminence.

According to this text “the firstborn over all creation” actually means “the firstborn from the dead” referring to Jesus resurrection. The term “firstborn” refers to the same fact as “the begotten” – the resurrected Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

John 5:26 For as the father has life in himself, so he has granted the son also to have life in himself.
27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the son of man.

Here we see that the Father and Jesus are separate in life as well as through their roles. When our Lord came to earth as man, He submitted Himself to the Father in everything. He reflected the whole fullness of Gods glory and laid aside His own independent divine attributes by fully becoming fully human and fulfilling Gods authority as the Son of Man.

ESV
Colossians 2: 9 For in him (Jesus) the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,

The divine words, Only Begotten Son, in my opinion tells me that Jesus Christ is the direct reflection of God the Father. Singular within His human form, displaying the whole fullness of deity while forming one third of the divine Spirit, and this triune spirit is our God Almighty. Jesus came to earth to become the son of man. Freely offering himself up as the sacrifice for sin so that on judgment day we can be presented unto the Father as pure and free from sin. Being the first born from the grave, Jesus is the only one who can witness in our behalf on that glorious day when we stand before the Father.

ESV
Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.

For this reason, we as Christians are to be ready, looking upwards awaiting our saviors blessed return. Then we will see our Lord face to face.

Psalm 57 …Tuesday September 27th, 2011

We see God’s faithful help and love in times of trouble

God will quiet our hearts and impart confidence when we

Seek Him and so turn to encounter HIM

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me for in you my soul takes refuge.

I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings

I cry out to God most high, To God, who fulfills his purpose for me

God sends his love and his faithfulness

Be exalted O God…let your glory be over all

My heart is steadfast

Awake, O my soul

I will praise you O Lord…..for great is your love…your faithfulness

Be exalted O god…let your glory be over all

Psalm 57

We see David’s reflections when he was hiding in a cave from Saul

1 Samuel 22-24

Verbal cruelty can damage us as badly as physical abuse

Like David let us take the time to talk to God about the situations we encounter

Psalm 57:4

We see in David a firm faith in God which contrasts with lying and boasting that confronts him

When confronted with verbal attacks, the best defense is simply to be quiet and praise God realizing that our confidence is in his love and in his faithfulness

Psalm 57:7

DON’T TURN INWARD TO SELF PITY OR OUTWARD TO REVENGE BUT UPWARD TO GOD

Psalm 57:10

Instead of spending sleepless nights worrying use those hours to meditate on an expression that would give Praise to God turning the times of stress into times of blessing by considering God’s faithfulness in comparison to the fleeting problems of the day

Psalm 57:8

INVEST TIME IN PRAISE RELEASING THAT WHICH HE CAN AND WILL DO

IN SO DOING YOU WILL ENCOUNTER THE BENEFITS OF GOD’S MERCY and HIS LOVING KINDNESS

Psalm 57 is a plea for protection and well as praise for divine providence

BE STILL O ANXIOUS HEART and so CONSIDER THE WONDERS OF THE LORD WHO REACHES FORTH WITH DIVINE LOVE and GRACE
