Should Christians be concerned about 12/21/12?

The Mayans in their Long Count Calendar declared that December 21, 2012 would be the end of this age. As we watch what is happening all around our globe with earthquakes, famines, droughts, floods, wars and impending economic world collapse, is there something in what the Mayans declared? Where did they get this information that is so relevant to us living in the year 2012?

The Mayan calendar is based upon astronomy and solar eclipses. It is believed that they got their wisdom from the Olmecs who can be traced back to about 2000 B.C. The more common legend still taught by Mayan Spiritual Leaders today is that they learned these great truths from a bearded white man who came across the great waters to Yucatan (eastern portion of Mexico) sometime after 500 B.C. The Aztecs named him Quetzalcoatl which means “Plumed Serpent”. There is some speculation that Quetzalcoatl could have come from Egypt, and that the "Plumed Serpent" represented the cobra with its hood expanded. Mayan legend says that Yucatan was originally inhabited by "people of the serpent," and their leader's name was Serpent of the East who followed the great Serpent God.

The question then, who is this serpent god?

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:1-5 ESV)

Who is this serpent that could cause Adam and Eve to deny the command of their creator?

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9 ESV)

A brief look into the history of Satan, the great dragon and ancient serpent.

Satan whose name is Lucifer was created as a perfect angel and lived with God in heaven in perfect harmony. Lucifer was above every other angel in heaven. He was the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. He radiated light and glory, every precious stone was his covering. He was in Eden, the garden of God; the anointed guardian cherub. Ezekiel 28:12-14. However, just over 6,000 years ago Lucifer became proud of his own glory and wisdom. Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. (Ezekiel 28:17 ESV)

Over time Lucifer began to question God's authority over his life until ultimately he wanted to remove God from His heavenly throne and sit there himself. ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; (Isaiah 14:13 ESV) Lucifer became so entrenched in his pride that God could no longer influence him. God reluctantly removed Lucifer from his position as Chief Covering angel. What had begun as mere thoughts fomented into a rebellion that drew one-third of the angels to his side and caused a war in heaven (Revelation 12:7-9).

Lucifer was created as we all were, with freedom of choice. Yahweh is a God of pure love and does not force anyone to follow Him. Some think for this reason that God created sin. However, I believe that with Love comes obedience and when Lucifer turned from Yahweh’s love to a self centered love, he fell into disobedience causing the first sin. So the father of sin is not God, but Lucifer himself and through this sin we can see the continuing efforts of Lucifer to become the god of this world.  Where God promises eternal life for those whom Love him, Satan brings sorrow, pain, destruction and both spiritual and physical death.

Lucifer is real as so are his fallen angels/demons. We do not see them physically walking this world for Satan and his demons since being thrown out of heaven are in the invisible spirit world where they tempt and corrupt all who are not protected under the blood of our Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Satan knows his time is soon coming to an end for when we count 120 by Jubilee Years from when sin entered our world through Lucifer’s deception with Adam and Eve, we come to the year 2044, but for the sake of the elect, time will be cut short.

Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” (Genesis 6:3 ESV)

So when we read of the Mayans stating that the “Serpent God” taught them of the coming end of this age being 12/21/12 we can rest assured that Lucifer being from heaven and being the great serpent of Genesis, he knows God’s plan first hand and therefore must act first.  

Will the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013 mark the beginning of the seven year tribulation? YES, it is possible, however, seeing that there are still prophecies to be fulfilled, I see it as unlikely. I do believe that at the end of this year we are going to be hit with such major deceptions that they will test the faith of many not truly grounded in God’s Word. Now is not the time to be a lukewarm Christian.

Whether it is to start in 2012 or a few years off yet, rest assured that Satan and his demons will be released from the spirit world and will appear in physical bodies that seem to have the very power of God.  Not only will Lucifer fool many through his miraculous powers, he will declare himself to be God, demanding our worship.

At the beginning of the seven seals we behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer. (Revelation 6:2 ESV) When taking this white horse rider in context with the other riders I believe it will be Lucifer himself. But do not fear for only by the Lamb’s permission can the forces symbolized by these horses and their riders inflict death through sword, famine, pestilence, and wild beasts, are you sealed of God, if so you will be protected, at the very least Christ will be with you as He was in the fiery furnace and the lions den.

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. (Revelation 19:11 ESV) The rider’s title, Faithful and True, identify him as Jesus, the faithful and true witness.

The white horse rider of Revelation 19:11 unlike the rider of Revelation 6:2 does not come out conquering, and to conquer for He already won the war upon the cross and became the first begotten from the grave of us all.

So in conclusion, will we see Christ coming in 2012, I do not believe so, will the 7 year Great Tribulation start this year, probably not. However, by what I believe to be Lucifer’s own words to the Mayans, I do believe that we are going to be faced with many great deceptions.

Many believe today that Christ will return before any of these events will happen, if I am wrong I will gladly admit it and apologize on that glorious day. However to assume that we as Christians will not face any deceptions at all is leaving yourself wide open to fall for what Lucifer has been planning for the last 6000 years.

All I am trying to say is this; you must be aware through God’s Word and the Holy Spirit least you, too, fall for Lucifer’s tricks, the deceptive one who is the deceiver of the whole world and the one who fooled one third of the heavenly angels.

If you have faith, even the size of a small mustard seed that grows into a great and mighty tree, rest assured that the Holy Spirit will be with you and guiding you in the coming days of Lucifer’s ultimate deception.
